UNICEF/UNFPA Provides Support to ASTU Needy Female Students




Academic dismissal rates of female students are greater than males. The major factor that coused female student to be dismissed from the university include
·         Harassment
·         Lack of assertiveness training
·         Teachers gender insensitivity
·         Absence of special sensitivity
·         Absence of special support program
·         Poor time management
·         Anxiety
·         Financial problems
·         Lack of proper guidance
·         Counseling service
·         Department placement without interest
The day to day lives of most Ethiopian girl students are increasingly becoming precarious.
Considering the malfunctioning factors on Ethiopian female students the UNICEF-UNFPA right based approach to adolescent and youth joint program has been launched in some selected Ethiopian higher education institutions since 2009. ASTU is one of the beneficiaries of this of this program. The program has made tremendous activities focusing on capacity building, leadership and networking, psycho social support, risk and vulnerability reduction of female students in Ethiopian higher education institutions.
